KARACHI: Three Dr Akash murder suspects were killed, and a police officer was injured in an alleged encounter in Gulshan-e-Maymar, Karachi, on Thursday, police said.
The Special Investigation Unit said officers had taken the detained men to Ahmed Brohi Goth near the Northern Bypass. They went there to identify locations connected with the investigation. Police claimed their alleged accomplices opened fire on the team. This triggered an exchange of gunfire.
Police said the three detainees suffered fatal gunshot wounds during the exchange and died before reaching the hospital. Meanwhile, the injured officer, identified as Ali Jan, was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. He was reported to be in stable condition.

Rescue officials identified the deceased as Suresh, 24, Ram Chand, 28, and Anil, 22. A Karachi court had placed the three men in police custody for seven days on July 16. This was for further investigation into the robbery and killing.
South Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza had announced their arrests at a press conference. This was after investigators used surveillance footage and intelligence leads to trace the suspects. Police had identified five alleged gang members. They said efforts were underway to arrest the remaining two.
Dr Akash Kumar, 28, was shot dead near Teen Talwar in Karachi’s Clifton area on July 13. This happened after armed robbers intercepted his vehicle outside a bank, according to police.
Police said searches were continuing for the alleged accomplices who escaped from the encounter site.
