TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on August 4 that he will not resign, rejecting reports that he repeatedly threatened to leave office.

“If I want to resign, I will officially announce that I have resigned,” Pezeshkian said during a televised interview. “I will not resign, I will stand,” according to The Guardian.

Pezeshkian also rejected claims of divisions between his administration, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and the armed forces. He said the government remained fully coordinated with Iran’s military leadership.

State-run IRNA said the prerecorded interview marked the administration’s first two years. The four-part broadcast also addressed the war and negotiations.

The denial followed allegations from senior cleric Mohammad Bagher Kharrazi, who has family ties to Khamenei. Kharrazi claimed Pezeshkian had repeatedly offered to resign after officials excluded him from major decisions.

He also alleged that Khamenei had warned Pezeshkian that another resignation request would receive approval. However, Khamenei’s office described that account as “fundamentally false and untrue,” The Guardian reported.

Mehdi Tabatabaei, a senior official in the president’s office, separately called the resignation reports “complete nonsense and lies.”

The dispute emerged during an internal debate over negotiations with Washington and proposals governing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. However, officials have not publicly produced a resignation letter.
