ISLAMABAD: Pakistan-Iran relations have entered a “new and unique era” after two years of intensified diplomatic engagement, Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam said on August 2.

Moghadam said the neighbouring South and West Asian countries had expanded exchanges among their presidents, prime ministers, military leaders and parliamentarians.

He likened the strength of their ties to Iran’s Mount Damavand and Pakistan’s K2. The ambassador cited Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s two visits to Pakistan.

Pezeshkian made his second presidential visit on June 23, according to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, officials discussed trade, energy, border security, regional connectivity and people-to-people exchanges. They also reviewed diplomatic efforts related to regional peace and stability.

Moghadam said the June visit conveyed Iran’s gratitude for Pakistan’s diplomatic support. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry later said Tehran had reaffirmed its trust in Islamabad’s mediation efforts.

The envoy also highlighted parliamentary cooperation. Pakistan’s National Assembly adopted a resolution on June 13, 2025, condemning Israeli attacks on Iran.

Moghadam said Iranian lawmakers subsequently chanted “Pakistan Tashakur,” or “Thank you, Pakistan.”

Pakistan also sent a high-level delegation to Tehran for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral on July 3.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led the delegation, which included Field Marshal Asim Munir, senior ministers and parliamentary leaders, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Moghadam said both countries wanted their partnership to promote regional peace, stability and economic development.
