The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has strongly refuted rumours of a rift between its top leaders, Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto, following Bilawal’s recent departure for Dubai.
The clarification follows statements made by former President Asif Ali Zardari in a private news channel interview, where he commented on Bilawal’s political training. The PPP emphasized that internal disagreements on issues are normal and do not signify deeper divisions within the party leadership.
PPP Central Secretary Information Faisal Karim Kundi clarified that Bilawal Bhutto’s trip to Dubai was pre-scheduled and unrelated to any alleged disagreements. This comes amidst varying narratives from Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto in the lead-up to the general elections in February 2024. While Bilawal has raised concerns about potential election interference, Zardari has expressed his belief in the transparency of the polls.
In the interview, Zardari acknowledged Bilawal’s talent, education, and eloquence but emphasized the importance of political experience. He noted that Bilawal, though not fully trained, is undergoing a learning process in the political arena.
Zardari also addressed the political strategies of the PPP, including the decision to initiate a no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, which he defended as necessary to prevent Khan from potentially extending his term in power.
