PESHAWAR, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: The provincial government is considering a Sehat Card top-up package for government employees as part of proposed reforms to expand and strengthen the Sehat Card Plus programme.

The proposal was discussed at a programme review meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi. Officials also considered increasing coverage for costly treatments and revising rates paid for medical services under the scheme.

Afridi directed officials to make the programme more organised, effective and financially sustainable while taking stronger measures to prevent misuse of the health-card facility.

The chief minister said healthcare and education remained priorities for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government and directed departments to avoid delays in decisions affecting both sectors. The KP government has separately identified strengthening Sehat Card Plus as a core element of its 2026 health policy.

The Sehat Card Plus programme currently provides eligible Khyber Pakhtunkhwa families access to treatment through empanelled hospitals. Its official portal allows beneficiaries to check eligibility, locate hospitals and review treatment information.

The government has not yet announced the proposed top-up package’s coverage limit, premium structure, eligibility conditions or implementation date.
