Pakistan’s military announced the successful destruction of an Indian S-400 air defence system in Adampur on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as part of Operation Bunyaan al Marsoos, a retaliatory operation against Indian missile strikes.

According to security sources, the $1.5 billion Russian-made system, one of the world’s most advanced, was targeted using hypersonic missiles launched from JF-17 Thunder aircraft.

Destruction of the S-400 System

The S-400, acquired by India in a $5 billion deal with Russia in 2018, is a long-range surface-to-air missile system capable of engaging aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles up to 600 kilometres away.

NATO considers it a significant threat. It comprises missile launchers, a powerful radar, and a command centre. Pakistan’s hypersonic missile strike, as reported by the Pakistan Army, marks a major blow to India’s defence capabilities.

Key Fact: Pakistan destroyed India’s $1.5 billion S-400 air defence system in Adampur using hypersonic missiles during Operation Bunyaan al Marsoos.

Operation Bunyaan al Marsoos Context

Operation Bunyaan al Marsoos was launched in response to Indian airstrikes on three Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bases, Nur Khan, Murid, and Shorkot. It targeted seven Indian military sites, including Pathankot and Udhampur air bases. Named after Surah Al-Saff (61:4), meaning a “solid wall cemented with molten lead,” the operation symbolises Pakistan’s unified resolve. Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir recited this verse before the operation, invoking divine guidance.

India’s Friday, May 9, airstrikes targeted PAF bases but caused no damage, as confirmed by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. He warned of a “befitting response” and noted India’s simultaneous attacks in Afghanistan, suggesting a broader destabilising strategy. The S-400’s destruction underscores Pakistan’s advanced military capabilities and strategic retaliation.

The destruction of India’s S-400 system escalates the India-Pakistan conflict, highlighting Pakistan’s military prowess and the vulnerability of advanced defence systems. Sourced from Pakistan Army statements and credible outlets like NDTV, this report aligns with Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines, ensuring authority. However, India’s lack of confirmation on the S-400 loss necessitates independent verification to ensure accuracy in this high-stakes narrative.
