Pakistan beat Australia by five wickets in the first ODI at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi, on Saturday as Arafat Minhas took 5-32 on debut.
Minhas became the first Pakistani bowler to take five wickets on ODI debut at home. Australia were bowled out for 200 in 44.1 overs before Pakistan reached the target in 42.3 overs.
Babar Azam scored 69 off 94 balls, while Ghazi Ghori made 65 off 92 deliveries. The pair added 127 runs for the third wicket after Pakistan slipped to 49-2.
Sahibzada Farhan scored 28, and Maaz Sadaqat made eight before Australia hit back early. Nathan Ellis later dismissed Babar and Ghori, but Pakistan needed only 16 runs at that stage.
Australia, sent in to bat, relied on Matthew Renshaw’s 61 off 63 balls and Matthew Short’s 55 off 76. Slow bowlers took eight Australian wickets on a dry, spin-friendly surface.
Abrar Ahmed struck first by removing Alex Carey for 19. Minhas then dismissed stand-in captain Josh Inglis for 13, Marnus Labuschagne for a duck and Cameron Green for a third-ball duck.
