The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has enabled citizens to update their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) photograph via the Pak ID mobile application.

With this new facility, citizens can update their CNIC photograph on their own without visiting a NADRA registration centre. The authority introduced the feature as part of its broader push to expand digital services and reduce in-person visits.

NADRA shared the update in response to a social media query from a citizen asking whether a CNIC photograph could be changed. The query also asked for the required steps. In its reply, the authority confirmed that users can submit the request directly through their Pak ID account.

To begin the process, users must log in to the Pak ID mobile app and select the “Update Card” option. From there, they can submit a request to change their CNIC photograph by following the on-screen instructions.

NADRA has also issued clear guidelines to ensure photographs meet official standards. Applicants should capture the photo using either the front or back camera. Also, ensure there are no shadows on the face. Hair must be kept away from the eyes, and there should be no obstruction in front of the face. A plain white background is required. Additionally, glasses must be removed, and lighting should be adequate so facial features are clearly visible.

The authority advises maintaining a proper distance from the camera so the face fits clearly within the circular frame displayed on the screen. The photo capture process is completed once the circle turns green. Applicants should remain calm and steady during the capture to avoid rejection.

Men may wear a cap or turban as long as the face remains fully visible. Women may take photographs while wearing a hijab, provided the face and chin are clearly visible.

NADRA said the initiative aims to improve convenience and accessibility. This allows citizens to complete essential identity updates digitally through the Pak ID mobile application.
