TEHRAN, Iran: Iran’s NPT commitment remains unchanged, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said, adding that Tehran continues to oppose nuclear weapons as a matter of principle.

Baghaei said Iran, as a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, considers it a duty to meet the obligations set out in the agreement. Nour News and the Iranian Foreign Ministry carried his remarks.

He said Iran views nuclear weapons as contrary to humanity and civilisation. However, Baghaei also accused the United States of failing to meet its responsibilities as an NPT member and nuclear-armed state.

Baghaei argued that Iran faced U.S. attacks despite what Tehran describes as compliance with its treaty commitments.

His comments came amid continuing military and diplomatic tensions between Tehran and Washington in the Middle East.
