A Lakki Marwat blast killed at least nine people, including two traffic police officials, and injured 23 others in Sarai Naurang tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, police said.
Police said a loader rickshaw carrying explosives exploded in a busy market during rush hour. Rescue 1122 teams shifted the dead and injured to Naurang Hospital for treatment.
Several injured people were in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise. Local residents gathered at the hospital to assist rescue teams and donate blood, police added.
Police and Bomb Disposal Squad personnel reached the site after the explosion, cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence for an investigation.
The blast occurred days after militants used a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device to attack the Fateh Khel police post in Bannu district on May 9, 2026, killing at least 15 policemen and injuring four others, including a civilian.
The Foreign Office said on Monday that it had summoned the Afghan charge d’affaires and issued a strong demarche to the Afghan Taliban regime over the Bannu attack. It said evidence and technical intelligence showed that terrorists residing in Afghanistan had masterminded the attack.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan conveyed serious concern over the use of Afghan soil for attacks and reserved the right to respond decisively against those responsible
