LOS ANGELES, United States: Actor Jake Johnson’s “The Dink” began streaming globally on Apple TV on July 24, leading a weekend slate of new cinema, subscription and digital releases.
Jake Johnson’s “The Dink” follows former tennis player Dusty Boyd as he turns to pickleball after an injury. Josh Greenbaum directed the comedy, while Apple Original Films lists Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris and producer Ben Stiller among its cast.
Apple describes the film as an underdog comedy about Boyd’s struggle to save his father’s country club. Sean Clements wrote the screenplay, according to Apple TV‘s official listing.
Hulu added “Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie” on July 24. Matt Johnson directed and stars alongside Jay McCarroll in the Canadian comedy, which sends its two aspiring musicians back to 2008, according to Hulu’s release schedule.

Netflix also began carrying “72 Hours,” an R-rated comedy starring Kevin Hart, Marcello Hernández and Teyana Taylor. Meanwhile, Prime Video added the 2026 live-action “Masters of the Universe,” starring Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam.

In cinemas, director Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Her Private Hell” opened across the United States on July 24. The science-fiction horror film stars Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton. Rotten Tomatoes listed a 43% critics’ score from 79 reviews on July 26, indicating a divided reception.
Alan Ritchson’s revenge film “Motor City” also opened during the weekend. “Hadestown: The Musical,” a filmed performance featuring five original Broadway principals, began its theatrical engagement on the same date.
