American YouTuber Johnny Somali, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael, is reportedly experiencing significant financial troubles while awaiting trial in South Korea.
According to a Telegram message shared by Youtuber Legal Mindset, the 24-year-old, charged with obstruction of business, is under a travel ban and prohibited from working, leaving him without income.
A message from someone close to Somali stated, “Johnny is out of money now, and I’m supporting him. He will starve if I don’t.” The message included a PayPal link for donations to help cover his legal expenses. Somali faces charges related to incidents such as playing loud music and pouring noodle soup on a convenience store table. He is also under investigation for alleged assault and drug use.

Somali has drawn widespread criticism for provocative actions, including kissing a statue honouring Korean victims of wartime sexual slavery and using the Rising Sun Flag, a symbol tied to Japanese militarism. His references to the disputed Takeshima territory further fueled public outrage. Seo Kyoung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, called Somali’s actions “self-inflicted misery” and urged strong legal consequences.
