BERLIN, Germany: AMD unveiled its Threadripper Halo Station at IFA 2026, positioning the desktop workstation as a local AI system that can handle extremely large models without relying on cloud infrastructure.
AMD Senior Vice President Jack Huynh introduced the system on September 4. The company describes it as a “personal supercomputer” aimed at developers and small teams running demanding AI workloads locally.
The workstation uses AMD’s 96-core Threadripper Pro 9995WX processor. It ships with two liquid-cooled Instinct MI350P accelerators and supports up to four GPUs.
At maximum configuration, the four accelerators provide up to 576 GB of HBM3E memory. The system can also carry up to 2 TB of DDR5 memory.
AMD says the hardware can run trillion-parameter AI models locally. That approach could appeal to organisations seeking lower latency or greater control over sensitive data.

The Threadripper Halo Station also puts AMD in closer competition with Nvidia’s DGX Station. However, Nvidia retains an established software advantage through its CUDA ecosystem.
AMD is developing its open-source ROCm software stack as an alternative for developers moving AI workloads to AMD hardware.

The Threadripper Halo Station is expected to become available in 2027. AMD has not announced official pricing, although industry experts estimate that a fully configured system could cost well into six figures.
