Tehran: Iran targeted US bases early Sunday after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it targeted American military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain with missiles and drones.
The IRGC said its naval and aerospace units carried out the operation between 2 am and 3 am local time. It described the strikes as retaliation for recent U.S. attacks on Iranian coastal positions.
The Guards said they targeted Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the U.S. Fifth Fleet site at Port Salman in Bahrain. They claimed the strikes hit U.S. military infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s armed forces said air defences were intercepting hostile missile and drone attacks. They said explosion sounds came from defensive systems engaging incoming threats.
Bahrain activated air raid sirens in Manama. The country had earlier condemned Iranian drone activity as a threat to regional security.
A U.S. official told Reuters there were no reported U.S. casualties or major damage to American facilities in the region. The official said the situation remained ongoing.
The IRGC warned that any further U.S. action would meet a “crushing response”. It also said future action against vessels violating Iranian-declared transit rules would intensify.
The latest exchange followed U.S. Central Command strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites, coastal radar facilities and other positions near the Strait of Hormuz.
