KARACHI, Sindh: Social-media reports have named Gloria von Habsburg as Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s alleged prospective bride, but the Pakistan Peoples Party has rejected the engagement and wedding claims as unfounded.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, identified as a spokesperson for PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, said the circulating reports about his engagement or marriage were “incorrect and unfounded.”
Some social media posts and smaller news outlets have gone further by naming Gloria von Habsburg, the daughter of Karl von Habsburg, as the woman Bilawal is allegedly expected to marry. She is a great-granddaughter of Karl I, the last emperor of Austria-Hungary.
Other reports have not identified the purported fiancée by name. They only claim that she is linked to Vaduz, Liechtenstein’s capital.
The circulating accounts also claim that President Asif Ali Zardari travelled to Europe with family members to discuss the proposed marriage and that a wedding could take place later this year. Neither claim has been confirmed by Bilawal, his family or the PPP.
Separate social media reports have linked Zardari’s visit to Austria to the alleged wedding preparations and suggested Vienna as a possible venue. Those details also remain unverified.
Bilawal has previously discussed marriage publicly without naming a prospective spouse. During the 77th United Nations General Assembly session in 2022, he said he had plans to marry but gave no timeframe.
