At the Islamabad High Court, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb called for clarification from the Attorney General concerning the potential for a military trial involving Imran Khan.

During the proceedings, Khan’s lawyer, Uzair Bhandari, raised concerns about statements from high-ranking officials hinting at the possibility of military custody for Khan.

Justice Aurangzeb dismissed the implications of these statements as purely political. “This is a political statement,” he remarked in response to the mentions of a military trial by top officials, including those by the DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), which Bhandari highlighted during the hearing.

The court addressed Khan’s petition against his potential military custody, where significant commentary emerged from Justice Aurangzeb. He consistently emphasized the political nature of the statements about Khan’s legal predicaments. “That is also a political statement,” Justice Aurangzeb reiterated when the lawyer cited the DG’s comments.

An interesting moment unfolded when Justice Aurangzeb probed Bhandari on the actual existence of a case against Khan, suggesting the concerns were more speculative than substantive. “This is politics,” Justice Aurangzeb concluded, signalling his view of the ongoing discourse surrounding Khan’s legal situation steeped in political manoeuvring rather than judicial merit.
