Chuck Norris’ Emmy omission drew criticism after the “Walker, Texas Ranger” star was left out of the televised In Memoriam segment at the 78th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
The ceremony aired from the Peacock Theatre on Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET on September 15. Norris, who died on March 19 at 86, starred in all eight seasons of CBS’ “Walker, Texas Ranger.”
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actor Nicholas Brendon, who died in March at 54, also missed the televised memorial. His omission drew additional attention because the broadcast separately marked the show’s 30th anniversary with Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz.
Other figures absent from the televised montage included Daveigh Chase, Patrick Muldoon, Jaye P. Morgan, Grizz Chapman and Robert Redford, according to entertainment-industry coverage. The Television Academy maintains a broader online In Memoriam archive beyond the names shown during the broadcast.

The memorial segment featured singer Noah Kahan performing “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and included dedicated tributes to Dolly Parton, Rob Reiner and Catherine O’Hara.
