The Google Pakistan office opened in Islamabad on August 18, while Vice President Wilson L. White announced plans to offer free one-year Gemini subscriptions to students nationwide.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the office and unveiled its plaque with the Google delegation. He called the opening a milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation.
White said Google had invested in Pakistan for more than a decade. He said the company’s goals aligned with Pakistan’s target of becoming a $30 billion IT export hub.
Google has contributed more than PKR 3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani businesses and households, White said. He added that its activities had supported more than 960,000 jobs.

White said Google would support the IT export push in three areas. These include skills development, hardware manufacturing and infrastructure, and support for local businesses.
The company has helped train more than 1 million Pakistanis through career certificates and by working with schools and teachers, according to White.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said Google’s local presence would deepen cooperation in AI, cloud technology, education and digital skills.
Google said formal details of the free Gemini subscription offer would be announced later in the week
