Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has backed the franchise’s future after a reported agreement to sell the NBA team to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for more than $12.5 billion.
Doncic addressed the ownership change in a statement on X, saying he had become accustomed to major changes in recent years but remained confident in the Lakers’ potential.
“I’ve gotten used to big changes over these last few years,” Doncic said, adding that he looked forward to meeting Kushner and Iger and working with them to build “something special” in Los Angeles.
The reported transaction follows Mark Walter’s purchase of a controlling interest in the Lakers from the Buss family for $10 billion in 2025. Walter is identified as chief executive of TWG Global and a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The ownership development comes as the Lakers also undergo major roster changes. Several players from the previous season will not return, leaving Doncic positioned as the team’s central star.

Doncic joined Los Angeles in a 2025 trade involving Anthony Davis. He is also preparing to host the Lakers squad in Slovenia for a four-day minicamp later this month.
The planned gathering will include workouts and team-bonding activities ahead of training camp.
