ANAHEIM, Calif.: Actor Ginnifer Goodwin and actor Ke Huy Quan announced Friday that “Zootopia 3” had entered early development at Walt Disney Animation Studios during Disney’s D23 2026 showcase.
Disney Animation Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush joined Goodwin and Quan for the Aug. 14 announcement at the Honda Centre, where the studio screened a custom sequence. Disney said the release date for “Zootopia 3” would be announced later.
Walt Disney Animation Studios wrote on X on Aug. 15 that “the bunny and the snake are back” and teased “feathery fliers.” Goodwin voices rabbit police officer Judy Hopps, while Quan voices Gary De’Snake.
The announcement followed the box-office run of the 2025 sequel “Zootopia 2.” Box Office Mojo lists its worldwide gross at $1.87 billion.

Disney previously named it the highest-grossing animated Motion Picture Association film before inflation adjustments.
The franchise began with Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia” in 2016. Goodwin’s Judy works with fox Nick Wilde, voiced by actor Jason Bateman.
“Zootopia 2” and the Disney+ anthology “Zootopia+” expanded the franchise before the third film entered development.
