Memon Day will be celebrated worldwide on April 10, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the community’s history.
The declaration was formalized during the 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the World Memon Organisation Charitable Foundation (WMO) on November 11, 2023.
The initiative, proposed by WMO President Mr Salman Iqbal, received unanimous support from Mr Iqbal Memon Officer, President of the All India Memon Jamaat Federation, and Mr Muhammad Shabbir Haroon, President of the All Pakistan Memon Federation.
The WMO leaders collectively designated April 10 as the official Memon Day, aiming to embody the WMO’s foundational principle of unity and service to humanity. Thus, the day will focus on encouraging and organizing charitable activities worldwide, reflecting the community’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy.
The Memon Community, with a significant presence in Pakistan and India and considerable populations in the UK, South Africa, Sri Lanka, North America, and the Middle East, is celebrated for its entrepreneurial spirit and charitable contributions.
Originating in Sindh in the 15th century as a mercantile society, the Memons have established themselves as a community dedicated to business and philanthropy. Their prosperity has facilitated the construction of mosques, orphanages, hospitals, community centres, and schools across various countries, demonstrating their commitment to giving back to society.
