Islamabad: The federal government has declared May 26, 27 and 28, 2026, as Eid ul Adha holidays, the Cabinet Division said in a notification issued Wednesday.
The notification said the prime minister approved Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays for Eid ul Adha across Pakistan.
Pakistan will observe Eid ul Adha on Wednesday, May 27, after the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced the sighting of the Zilhaj crescent on May 17.
The moon-sighting meeting took place at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) office in Karachi, Sindh, with Maulana Azad in the chair. The committee said it received credible testimonies from several parts of the country.
The committee decided by consensus that 1 Zilhaj 1447 AH would fall on Monday, May 18, making Eid ul Adha fall on Wednesday, May 27.

Eid ul Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, commemorates the Qur’anic account of Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah. The occasion is marked by Eid prayers, family gatherings and the ritual sacrifice of livestock, with meat shared among relatives, friends and people in need.
