The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) instructed the Sindh chief secretary to immediately retract the security, privileges, and protocols previously granted to the past members of the provincial cabinet and government officials.
The ECP’s move followed the culmination of the provincial government’s term, with the upcoming general elections on the horizon, slated for early next year post the delimitation process.
In his official communication to the provincial secretary and inspector general, Election Commission Secretary Omar Hamid highlighted that these ex-officials continue to benefit from the advantages associated with their erstwhile positions.
The directive emphasized the immediacy of the matter, stating: “You are advised to withdraw protocol/security and other benefits from the former provincial cabinet members and equivalent political appointees and report compliance within three days.”
Guidelines on Vacation of Government Facilities
The letter also reminded of the ECP’s guidelines from August 15, which, following the dissolution of national and provincial assemblies, mandates that all past federal and provincial ministers vacate all government residential amenities. This includes the previous prime minister, chief ministers, and their consultants.
