The Sindh High Court in Karachi dismissed a dual domicile case on Tuesday, ruling that a primary school teacher candidate was ineligible for appointment.
The petitioner’s counsel told the court that his client had passed the recruitment test for a primary school teacher post in Sindh. He said authorities denied the appointment letter because the candidate held two domiciles.
The lawyer argued that the petitioner later cancelled his domicile in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, after moving to Karachi. He also alleged discriminatory treatment in the recruitment process.
The prosecutor said the Punjab domicile was cancelled in September 2024. He said the recruitment advertisement deadline had expired in April 2021, so the petitioner did not meet the eligibility requirements at that time.

The court observed that Pakistani law allows a citizen to hold only one domicile and one Permanent Residence Certificate. It said no legal provision permits the simultaneous use of multiple domiciles.
The Sindh High Court said the petitioner failed to provide complete and accurate information in his job application. It cited a letter from the Deputy Commissioner of Rahim Yar Khan showing that the earlier domicile remained valid until its later cancellation.
The court held that the petitioner had concealed material facts and submitted a false affidavit about the accuracy of his information. It dismissed the petition on those grounds.
