Former Indian Cricketer David Johnson Passes Away After Falling from Fourth Floor

David Johnson, a former Indian fast bowler, tragically passed away after falling from the roof of his fourth-floor apartment in Bangalore. Initial reports are investigating the circumstances around his death, with some sources suggesting it may have been a suicide.

Johnson, who had been battling depression, allegedly jumped from his apartment balcony, according to some accounts in the Indian media. He was known in his later years for running a cricket academy close to his residence, contributing to the development of young cricketers.

David Johnson, once clocked 157.8 km/h during the Test match against Australia, passed away in Bengaluru at age of 52.

Johnson’s cricket career began in the domestic circuit with the Ranji Trophy in 1995, and he ascended to international cricket by playing a Test match against Australia in 1996. His international career was brief, encompassing only two Test matches where he claimed three wickets.

Johnson’s sudden death at the age of 52 left behind his wife and two children. The cricket community, including former teammates and officials, has expressed profound grief over his passing. Notable figures such as Anil Kumble, Gautam Gambhir, and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah have released statements expressing their condolences and highlighting Johnson’s contributions to Indian cricket.
