KARACHI, Sindh: A KMC building fire affected Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s office at the historic headquarters on M.A. Jinnah Road on Tuesday, with firefighters extinguishing the blaze and reporting no casualties.
KMC and the fire brigade officials said the fire started in or near a kitchen adjoining the mayor’s first-floor office before spreading into the office area. Two to three fire tenders were reported at the scene.
Reports differed on the scale of the damage; local news channels said the mayor’s office was severely damaged or gutted, with furniture, an LED screen and other equipment destroyed.

However, Rescue 1122 spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan told Dawn that only an air conditioner’s outer unit was damaged and described the incident as minor. South DIG Asad Raza also called it a minor fire.
Several reports cited a short circuit as the suspected cause, though some officials said the cause had not yet been conclusively established.
The incident occurred a day after a major factory fire in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone, but that blaze was a separate event.
