Pop icon Britney Spears set the internet on fire with a bold claim: she purportedly broke Usain Bolt’s legendary 100-meter sprint world record.
In a viral Instagram post, Spears announced she completed the sprint in an astonishing 5.97 seconds, nearly four seconds faster than Bolt’s record of 9.58 seconds set at the 2009 Berlin World Athletics Championships.
Her post read, “Ran my first 5!!!! Overcoming the fear of pushing hard at the start is key… Once I did that, I hit 5!!!!! I usually run 6 or 7… My first try was 9… and now I did it whoop!!!!! 100-meter dash.”
The audacious claim amused and puzzled fans, prompting some to create simulations on social media to illustrate the improbability of Spears’ alleged time.

Usain Bolt’s records are considered almost insurmountable. He still holds world records in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay, having dominated the track for over a decade. Despite one of his relay gold medals being revoked in 2017 due to a teammate’s doping violation, his achievements remain unmatched by any professional athlete, including pop stars.
Amid the escalating frenzy, Spears later clarified her statement in a follow-up post, indicating her initial claim was made in jest. “PS … obviously I was joking about running the 100-meter dash in 5.97 seconds … the world record is held by Usain Bolt at 9.58 seconds,” she wrote, humorously adding, “But you better believe I’m coming for the world record.”
While her sprint claim was fictitious, Spears once again demonstrated her knack for capturing the world’s attention, whether through her music or a playful social media post. Meanwhile, Bolt, unaffected by the playful jab, continues his legacy as the undisputed fastest man alive.
