PESHAWAR, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Four Peshawar gang-rape suspects were killed on Friday after police said armed men attacked officers transporting them for identification and recovery proceedings in the Rehman Baba area.
Police said the attackers opened fire on the police party and the four detainees were struck by bullets fired by their alleged accomplices. The armed men escaped from the scene, according to the police account.
The four men had been arrested over the alleged gang rape of two women in Garhi Mosam Khan and were placed on one-day physical remand by a Peshawar judicial magistrate on Thursday.
Police allege that armed men entered the women’s home at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, restrained members of the family and sexually assaulted the two women at gunpoint. Mobile phones were also allegedly taken from the house.
Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Farhan Khan said special investigation teams traced the suspects using technical evidence. Police also said forensic samples from the women and suspects had been sent for examination.

The case was registered under provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code covering gang rape, robbery and house trespass, along with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Act 2010 because children were present during the alleged offence.
