KARACHI, Sindh: A Dhabeji power breakdown shut down 10 of 21 water pumps on Sunday. This could reduce Karachi’s water supply, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) said.
The outage disrupted electricity to the Phase III, Phase IV and K-III pump houses at Dhabeji Pumping Station in Thatta district. This information comes from a KWSC spokesperson.
K-Electric attributed the interruption to a cable fault. Meanwhile, KWSC said it was coordinating with the power utility to restore electricity to the affected pumping facilities as soon as possible.

The water corporation cautioned that shutting down nearly half of the station’s operating pumps could partly affect the volume of water transmitted to Karachi. However, it did not immediately specify the size of any resulting water shortfall or identify particular neighbourhoods facing disruption.
KWSC said it would restart the affected pumps as soon as power supply was restored. Dhabeji is one of the corporation’s key bulk-water facilities. It is currently undergoing rehabilitation to improve pumping capacity and reduce downtime.
