Apple Weather outage reports spread on Tuesday afternoon, April 28, after Apple said the app “may be slow or unavailable” for some users.
Apple’s System Status page showed that the first reports began around 11:36 a.m. ET. The disruption prevented some iPhone users from checking current forecasts, temperature updates, and other weather data through the app.
Users across the United States reported problems on X and Reddit, with several noting that Apple Weather rarely experiences service interruptions. Apple initially listed Weather as functioning normally despite multiple user complaints. The company later acknowledged the issue as the outage continued.
DownDetector also recorded an unusual spike in complaints linked to The Weather Channel app and Apple Support. DownDetector and Mashable share the same parent company, Ziff Davis.

The Weather Channel’s own service problems may have contributed to the Apple Weather outage, as Apple Weather relies on external providers for some weather information. The incident highlighted how third-party data disruptions can affect widely used apps, even when the core service is provided by a major technology company.
