ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan told his sister he was facing “severe injustice and torture” in detention, as PTI announced plans for contempt proceedings over his medical treatment.
Dr Uzma Khan said after meeting her brother at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences that he had complained repeatedly about his treatment over the past 10 months.
However, she said Imran appeared physically fit during the meeting. She said doctors recorded his blood pressure at 120/80 and administered an injection to one of his eyes.
The Supreme Court had ordered on Tuesday that Imran be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment and allowed weekly family meetings.
Instead, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said authorities took Imran to PIMS during the night of August 20 and 21 because of security concerns around Shifa.
Tarar said doctors from Shifa were also present at PIMS. He said a team, including an ophthalmologist, a cardiologist and a physician, examined Imran and declared him medically fit. Imran was returned to Adiala Jail at about 5 am on August 21, Tarar said.
