ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan’s Shifa Hospital medical examination was completed overnight before authorities returned the jailed former prime minister to Adiala Jail at about 5 am on August 21, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said.
Tarar said in a post on X that authorities transferred Khan to the hospital during the night of August 20-21 under security arrangements made in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.
A medical team comprising an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician examined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and declared him medically fit, according to the minister.
Tarar said Khan’s sister, Azma Khan, remained present throughout the medical examination and treatment process.
The transfer followed an August 18 order by a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, directing authorities to take Khan to Shifa International Hospital within two days and to constitute a medical board to assess him.
Before the transfer, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi visited the hospital with senior officers to review security arrangements. Police, jail officials and Rangers established checkpoints and cleared vehicles from nearby roads.
