The Apni Chat Apna Ghar scheme has crossed a major milestone in Punjab, with more than Rs191 billion distributed in interest-free loans to support house construction for low-income families.
According to the Punjab Housing Department, the programme has so far provided funding to 135,410 families across the province. Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said the scheme is helping turn home ownership into a reality for people who had long struggled to build a house of their own.
Bilal Yasin said the scheme has already delivered more than 91,000 houses, a record achievement.
He added that work is underway on another 42,000 houses and that authorities expect to complete them within the current financial year. These figures highlight the scale of the programme as Punjab expands support for low-income housing.
During a meeting with Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency Director General Sikandar Zeeshan, the minister said recoveries of more than Rs10 billion in instalments demonstrate the scheme’s transparency.
He also said public demand remains strong. Families have submitted more than 1.176 million loan applications under the programme, showing broad interest in affordable housing support.
The housing drive is part of a broader plan announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in 2024 to build 100,000 houses for low-income people.
During a meeting in Lahore, the chief minister called for a comprehensive implementation plan for the project. Officials also decided to build more than 3,000 houses in every district of Punjab as part of the wider effort.
The latest figures suggest the government is trying to combine direct construction targets with large-scale interest-free financing to speed up housing delivery. The Apni Chat Apna Ghar scheme as a flagship social support programme focused on affordability, transparency and wider access to home ownership across Punjab.
