Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Mojtaba Khamenei vowed revenge Saturday for the U.S.-Israeli killing of his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“Vengeance is the will of our nation and must inevitably be carried out,” Khamenei said in a written message. Khamenei became Iran’s supreme leader after his father was killed in late February during U.S.-Israeli strikes. The message was his first since his father’s funeral this week.
He said the retaliation did not depend on his personal survival or the presence of other Iranian officials. He also said Iran had compiled a list of individuals to be targeted.
Hours earlier, President Donald Trump warned on Truth Social that any attempt to assassinate him would lead the United States to “completely decimate” Iran.
Trump said U.S. military orders had already been issued and that missiles were aimed at Iran in response to any assassination attempt.
The threats came after renewed U.S.-Iran exchanges shook an interim agreement aimed at ending the war that began in late February.
