RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s armed forces on Saturday marked the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed, the Kargil hero awarded Nishan-e-Haider.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, led the tribute, according to the ISPR statement.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, also joined the commemoration.
The armed forces paid tribute to Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s courage, devotion and sacrifice in the service of Pakistan.
Captain Karnal Sher Khan embraced martyrdom during the 1999 Kargil conflict. The statement said he showed gallantry and leadership while defending Pakistan against heavy odds.
He led from the front and upheld the traditions of the Pakistan Army, the armed forces said. Captain Karnal Sher Khan received Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military gallantry award, after his martyrdom.
