The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and the Armed Forces of Pakistan have paid tribute to Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed, the recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, on his 24th Martyrdom Anniversary.
Captain Khan’s indomitable courage and leadership inspire his fellow citizens to defend Pakistan against all odds.
Captain Khan’s Heroism and Legacy
Born on January 1, 1970, in the Nawan Killi (Shewa Adda) village in Swabi, Captain Khan was commissioned into the Army on October 14, 1994.
He became a symbol of bravery and courage during the Kargil conflict on the Line of Control. Establishing five strategic posts at the height of 17,000 feet at Gultary, he defended them against numerous Indian attacks, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy.
His post was surrounded and partially captured by Indian forces after they unleashed heavy mortar fire on July 5, 1999. Despite the odds, Captain Khan led a counter-attack to re-capture the lost parts of his post. However, during the counter-offensive, he was hit by machine-gun fire and embraced martyrdom on the battlefield.
Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed is one of only ten recipients of the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honour. His valour and commitment to defending his country continue to serve as a shining example for the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
His martyrdom anniversary is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s Armed Forces to defend their motherland.
The ISPR stated, “Let us remember these heroes who have laid down their lives to defend our motherland. The nation is proud of its gallant sons.”
