LONDON: The World Travel & Tourism Council opened nominations for the 7 Contemporary Wonders of the World on July 7, 2026, launching a global search for seven modern human-made landmarks.
The WTTC said the campaign covers landmarks, buildings, institutions and resorts built from 1801 to today. It will announce the final seven on July 7, 2027.
WTTC President and CEO Gloria Guevara said: “Wonder is not something humanity stopped creating centuries ago”. She said every generation leaves its mark on the world.
The council will judge nominations on tourism contribution, economic impact, community value, destination development, cultural significance and architectural value.
It also said eligible sites must be human-made, modern-era creations and open to discovery. Therefore, the campaign will include both famous global icons and emerging landmarks.
The WTTC cited the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza as examples of sites that reshaped tourism appeal.
Meanwhile, the campaign will move through three more stages. The WTTC will announce 70 nominees on January 7, 2027, when public voting begins.
It will then name 30 finalists on April 7, 2027. Finally, the council will reveal the seven Contemporary Wonders of the World on July 7, 2027.
