LAHORE: The Punjab government has expanded the Punjab home repair loans under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme. The scheme offers interest-free financing of Rs500,000 to Rs1 million.
The scheme was approved during a meeting chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yaseen. The new phase targets low-income families living in unsafe, dilapidated or poorly maintained homes across Punjab.
The loans carry no markup and can be repaid in easy monthly instalments over 7 years. Applicants must apply through the official Apni Chhat Apna Ghar e-portal, according to the report.
Eligibility includes a monthly household income below Rs50,000 and registration with the National Socio-Economic Registry. Additionally, applicants must have a PMT score of 60 or less.
Applicants must hold a valid Computerised National Identity Card and permanent Punjab residency. The scheme covers owners of houses or plots measuring up to five marla in urban areas. Furthermore, it covers up to 10 marla in rural areas.

Applicants must not be bank defaulters and must have no prior criminal record, as per the eligibility criteria.
The Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency and the Bank of Punjab said 170,000 families had already benefited from the broader housing initiative. Meanwhile, the programme plans to extend loans to another 100,000 families in the next cycle.
