The Nobel Peace Prize 2026 has 287 candidates under consideration, including 208 individuals and 79 organisations, Norwegian Nobel Committee Secretary Kristian Berg Harpviken said Thursday.
Harpviken said this year’s list included many names that did not appear last year, while stressing that officials keep nominations secret for 50 years and no one can independently verify them.
U.S. President Donald Trump is likely to be among the nominees after leaders of Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan said they had nominated him.
Harpviken declined to confirm whether anyone had nominated Trump, noting that a nomination does not mean the award body endorses the nominee.
Eligible nominators include members of governments and parliaments, current heads of state, university professors in selected fields and former Nobel Peace Prize laureates.
Harpviken said the Peace Prize remained important despite rising global conflicts and pressure on international cooperation, adding that “there is as much good work, if not more, than ever.”
The committee also expressed concern over the health of jailed Iranian rights activist Narges Mohammadi, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, after supporters said her condition had worsened in prison.

The Nobel Committee will announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner on October 9 and hold the award ceremony on December 10.
