The Nilofar cyclone has started weakening and is unlikely make landfall in coastal areas of Pakistan.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday stated that the cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea is expected to move towards Indian coastal belt after reaching at a distance of 250 kilometers from Karachi on Thursday evening.
The PMD further stated that the cyclone will cause rain/thundershowers coupled with gusty winds in Karachi, Thatta, Badin districts and coastal areas of Balochistan from Thursday night to Friday.
According to PMD, the cyclone is presently located about 600 kilometer south-west of Karachi and likely to hit Indian Gujarat state.
On Wednesday, the PMD had forecasted that the cyclone may hit Pakistan’s coastal belt, prompting authorities to put relevant departments on ‘high alert’, banning deep sea fishing and beach picnics and imposing state of emergency in hospitals.
Section-144 has been imposed in Thatta and Badin districts where people living in coastal villages were evacuated to safer places.
