GLASGOW, Scotland: Arshad Nadeem lost his Commonwealth Games men’s javelin title after finishing ninth with a best throw of 77.41 metres at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday.
The Pakistani Olympic champion fouled his opening attempt before recording 77.41 metres in the second round. His third throw reached 75.39 metres, leaving him outside the top eight who advanced to three further attempts.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won gold with 89.75 metres. India’s Neeraj Chopra took silver with a season-best 85.83 metres, while teammate Yash Vir Singh secured bronze with a personal-best 85.41 metres on his final attempt, according to World Athletics.

Nadeem had qualified seventh with a throw of 78.63 metres after cold and strong winds affected Thursday’s preliminary round. Pathirage led qualification with 82.84 metres, the Glasgow 2026 organisers reported.
Nadeem won the 2022 Commonwealth title in Birmingham with 90.18 metres. That distance remains the Commonwealth Games record despite Pathirage succeeding him as champion.
Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan did not reach the final after placing 14th in qualification with 74.36 metres.
