The world’s largest solar thermal power plant is killing local birds

BrightSource Energy Plant in Ivanpah U.S. is world’s largest solar thermal power plant. It is powered by supercritical steam rather than the regular photovoltaic energy. In this method the steam turbine runs after sun’s heat is reflected by 300,000 mirrors towards a single point.

At this plan it is a common sight to see steamer, a spiral of smoke, appearing without warning. And U.S. government wildlife inspectors have shown their reservations towards it as they say local birds are dying due to the tower as these local birds approach the insects attracted to the reflective mirrors. Sources say that up to 28,000 local birds are dying every year because of the power plant.
