Twenty-eight teams had secured World Cup knockout places before the final group-stage matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on June 27, with 12 nations already eliminated.
The expanded 48-team format sends 32 teams into the knockout stage. FIFA’s format gives places to the top two teams from each of the 12 groups and the eight best third-placed teams.
Mexico and South Africa qualified from Group A, while the Czech Republic exited the tournament.
Switzerland, Canada and Bosnia & Herzegovina advanced from Group B. Qatar exited the tournament.
Brazil and Morocco qualified from Group C, while Haiti exited the tournament. Group D sent the United States, Australia and Paraguay through, with Turkey eliminated.
Germany, the Ivory Coast and Ecuador advanced from Group E. The Netherlands, Japan and Sweden advanced from Group F to the Round of 32. Tunisia went out.
Belgium and Egypt qualified from Group G, while New Zealand exited the tournament. Spain and Cape Verde advanced from Group H, with Uruguay and Saudi Arabia knocked out. France, Norway and Senegal progressed from Group I. Iraq was eliminated.

Argentina had secured qualification from Group J, while Jordan was out. Colombia and Portugal qualified from Group K. England and Ghana advanced from Group L. Panama was eliminated.
The Round of 32 begins on June 28, one day after the group stage ends. Sixteen nations will leave the tournament after the group phase under the expanded format
