William Neil McCasland had ties to government-connected research entities before he disappeared from Albuquerque, New Mexico, on February 27, according to newly released FOIA records.
The retired U.S. Air Force major general, 68, was last seen at his Albuquerque home. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI have been involved in the search.
The records listed links to Sandia National Laboratories, Riverside Research, Kirtland Partnership and a university-affiliated research centre. The material surfaced after history researcher Sara Bondink filed a Freedom of Information Act request.
Military.com reported that McCasland previously commanded the Air Force Research Laboratory. His official U.S. Air Force biography said he managed a multibillion-dollar science and technology programme at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The biography also listed roles in space research, acquisition and operations, including posts linked to the Pentagon and the National Reconnaissance Office. The new material suggested McCasland had been trying to step away from professional roles before he disappeared.

Authorities have not publicly linked his disappearance to classified programmes, research projects or UFO-related investigations. An anonymous caller had claimed McCasland’s name appeared in UFO files. Officials have not confirmed that claim.
The investigation remains open, and authorities have not announced a major breakthrough since McCasland was reported missing.
