NEW YORK: The US jobs report due September 4 is expected to show 58,000 jobs added, while Broadcom earnings on September 2 will test a Wall Street rally near record highs.
A Reuters poll as of August 28 forecasts the unemployment rate at 4.1%. The estimate follows a weak July report showing employment fell by 23,000 jobs.
The S&P 500 ended the week slightly more than 1% below its August 13 record and was up more than 12% for 2026. Nvidia’s strong quarterly results had supported technology shares after higher Treasury yields pressured markets earlier in August.
Investors are also assessing the Federal Reserve’s September 15-16 policy meeting. Fed funds futures on Friday implied a 57% probability of a rate increase, according to Reuters.

Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh said Friday that inflation remained above the central bank’s 2% target. He cited 12-month personal consumption expenditures inflation of 3.7% and said the Fed’s predominant focus should currently be on prices.

Meanwhile, Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) will report fiscal third-quarter 2026 results after US markets close on Wednesday, September 2.
Broadcom’s report comes near the end of a strong corporate earnings season. Reuters said adjusted second-quarter earnings for S&P 500 companies were on pace to rise 34.5% from a year earlier, according to LSEG IBES data.
