Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha’s mother, Ana Candida Evora, reached Miami on Friday before Cape Verde’s World Cup match against Uruguay on Sunday.
Evora travelled from Praia, Cape Verde’s capital, after receiving a U.S. visa following her son’s emotional comments at the World Cup.
She emerged from the arrivals area at Miami International Airport at 3:53 p.m. local time. She wore a pink shirt and smiled as she shook hands with staff wearing FIFA accreditation.
“I want to wish him good luck and a good match,” Evora said after arriving in Miami.
It was not immediately clear whether she would make the five-hour drive to Tampa, where Vozinha has been staying, or wait until Sunday to reunite with him.
