A series of attacks in Balochistan resulted in one fatality and injuries to five individuals, including a police officer, intensifying security concerns as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) prepares for a crucial meeting on law and order before the February 8 elections.
Details of the Attacks
In Quetta, an explosion on the CPEC road claimed a life, utilizing around eight to 10 kilograms of explosives, according to SSP Operations Tariq Jawad. The blast damaged an electricity pole but was not near any election activities, with security forces on high alert for election-related gatherings.
Another attack targeted Quetta’s Sialkot police station with a grenade, injuring Additional Superintendent Raza Muhammad, who is now stable. Jaffarabad district witnessed a similar assault, injuring three when a hand grenade was thrown at a truck in Dera Allahyar.
Turbat experienced a market blast, injuring one, with law enforcement securing the area for evidence collection. Additionally, a grenade exploded near the PML-N’s election office on Quetta’s Qambrani Road, fortunately without casualties.
These incidents follow a tragic day where a political party leader was killed and eight others were injured in attacks on election offices and candidates’ residences, highlighting the volatile security situation in Balochistan as elections approach.
