NEW DELHI, India: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Rashtrapati Bhavan during his BRICS Summit trip, viewing Ashok Hall and its prominent Persian artwork.
Pezeshkian also held an official meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu at the presidential palace during his stay in New Delhi.
Ashok Hall’s ceiling features a large oil-on-canvas work depicting Qajar ruler Fath-Ali Shah on a hunt. Iranian court artist Mihr ‘Ali created the painting around 1810 during Fath-Ali Shah’s reign.
Rashtrapati Bhavan’s official history says the shah originally presented the painting to Britain’s King George IV.

Fath-Ali Shah was the second ruler of Iran’s Qajar dynasty and reigned from 1797 to 1834. His era became closely associated with elaborate court portraiture and royal artistic patronage.

Pezeshkian’s visit to the hall coincided with his diplomatic engagements in India for the BRICS gathering.
