The US said it struck Iranian military sites at the weekend, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Monday they targeted an air base used by US forces.
US Central Command said fighter aircraft hit Iranian air defences, a drone ground-control station and two one-way attack drones.
CENTCOM said it acted after Iran shot down a US MQ-1 drone over international waters. It described the strikes as self-defence.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it launched its response after a US attack on southern Iran. It did not name the air base.
Kuwait’s military said its air defences intercepted hostile missiles and drones. State media reported sirens across the country, including near a major US base.

The exchange came as Washington and Tehran pursued talks to end the three-month-old war. A ceasefire has been in place since early April, but both sides have continued to trade sporadic strikes.
US President Donald Trump said Iran “really wants” a deal. He told critics of his diplomacy to “sit back and relax” in a Truth Social post.
Satellite images reviewed by CNN showed Iran has reopened many underground missile tunnel entrances hit by US and Israeli strikes. Experts said the repairs show the limits of bombing access roads and tunnel mouths.
President Donald Trump has identified degrading Iran’s missile capabilities as a key war objective.
