KARACHI, Sindh: A woman in the Karachi fake pregnancy case admitted she was not pregnant and had presented a fake ultrasound report, police said while investigating an alleged newborn disappearance at a Nazimabad hospital.
According to investigators, the woman said she suffered a miscarriage after marrying in 2024 and later began presenting herself as pregnant while under pressure.
Police said a subsequent medical examination and medico-legal report found no evidence that she had been pregnant. Investigators also determined that an ultrasound report displayed on her mobile phone was unauthenticated.
The case emerged after the woman’s family accused staff at the private hospital of negligence and alleged that a newborn had disappeared. Hospital officials disputed the claim and maintained that the woman had not been pregnant.
Police are separately examining why hospital staff took the woman to an operating theatre without first conducting tests or an examination capable of confirming pregnancy.

The doctor involved told investigators that no baby was found during the procedure and said the woman had arrived as an emergency patient claiming she was receiving treatment elsewhere.
Police have recorded statements from the doctor and hospital staff and are reviewing CCTV footage, medical records and test results.
The woman’s husband has lodged a complaint against the hospital. Police said legal action could follow against the hospital, doctor or other individuals if negligence is established.
